How is the APUSH exam scored?
The AP US History exam has four parts: 55 multiple-choice questions worth 40% of your score, 3 short answer questions worth 20%, a document-based question (DBQ) worth 25%, and a long essay question (LEQ) worth 15%. Your weighted composite is converted to the 1–5 scale.
What percentage do I need for a 5 on APUSH?
Based on recent released curves, a weighted composite of roughly 72% or higher typically earns a 5. Around 58% earns a 4, and around 43% earns a 3. The exact cut points shift slightly each year.
What percent of students get a 5 on APUSH?
Historically around 10–13% of students earn a 5, and roughly 45–50% earn a 3 or higher. APUSH has one of the tougher distributions among popular AP exams.
Is this calculator accurate?
It uses score bands from recent released exams, so it's a good estimate — but College Board adjusts the curve every year based on exam difficulty, so treat the result as a prediction, not a promise.
